CABIN AIR FILTER REPLACEMENT GUIDE

06 Subaru Impreza WRX

This guide is meant to supplement you in performing one of the most basic maintenance items.  Please be responsible and work on your car at your own risk.  Subaru recommends that the cabin air filter be replaced at 30,000 miles.  This was performed at 40,000 miles.

This guide also includes an OPTIONAL step of disabling the daytime running lights in step 4.

Tools needed: Phillips screwdriver

Inventory: Genuine Subaru Cabin Air Filter element

1.   Remove the glove box.  There are (9) screws total plus 1 plastic screw on the side.

2.  Once you remove all the screws carefully take the glove box off and gently set it down.  There are wires connected to it.

3.  I found it was necessary to remove this plug in order to remove the old air filter.  It is located at the bottom.

5.  Pop open the cover.  There are two tabs holding it.  Once u get it open, remove the filter.  U might need to do so in an angle.  Mine was filthy, dusty, filled with debris, and disgusting.  I’ve heard of some people using conventional air filters and cutting it to specs.  I suppose that would also work.  Check here: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=23238864&postcount=119

6.  Place the air filter with the letters facing out like so.  Pop the cover back on.  Put the plug back in.  Set the glove box back in its place.  Put all the screws back in, and you’re done.

RESULTS:

You will instantly notice that your ac is colder and that it blows stronger.  If you noticed a mildewy smell before, you will notice that the air is fresher and less smelly.  I was shocked at how dirty the filter was on this car.  It’s well worth it to replace it if you value your health at all!
